"I'm sorry" -- Descushiel apologizes for failing Nigeria

Nigerian singer Mercy Isoyip, widely recognized as Descushiel, has issued a public apology to Nigerians following her viral blunder in reciting the National Anthem during an event in Imo State.

The incident occurred when Descushiel, clad in a police uniform, led the recitation of the national anthem at the Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.

This event, attended by senior police and military officers, featured the acting Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, and Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State.

During the live broadcast of the event on Monday, the singer, posing as a policewoman, took the stage to render the National Anthem but faltered in her recitation, leading to public outrage and widespread trolling for the glaring error.

In response to the widespread criticism, Descushiel took to her Instagram page on Tuesday to offer a heartfelt apology. She acknowledged her mistake and expressed her remorse, acknowledging that such errors were inexcusable.

In a video message shared on her Instagram account, she addressed the nation, saying,

“My good people of our country, please accept my apology, as well as my assurance that I will be more careful in the future to prevent such incidents from recurring. God bless the Nigeria Police Force. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
