Ikeja gas explosion: seven injured, nine vehicles burned (UPDATE)

The gas explosion at a Mobil Filling Station on Awolowo Way in Ikeja, Lagos State, on Thursday left several customers and vehicles caught in the blaze, with seven individuals suffering burns.

Topnaija reported that the explosion occurred as a gas tanker offloaded its contents at the station.

Tragically, the fire affected several bus drivers and vehicles inside the station. Nine vehicles were completely burned, and two nearby buildings suffered heat damage.

TopNaija learned that the explosion was triggered when a “motor boy,” or the assistant to the tanker driver, was preparing the discharge connector on the truck.

Emergency responders, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the National Emergency Management Agency, and health workers, quickly arrived at the scene to extinguish the fire and treat the injured. Among the injured, one person suffered severe burns.
