Ibadan residents demand better electricity supply in peaceful protest

On Monday, scores of residents from various communities along the Ibadan – Iwo Road staged a peaceful protest at the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) office, voicing their demand for a more reliable electricity supply.

The protest began in the early hours of the morning, with residents gathering at the IBEDC office in the Alabebe area. Demonstrators, frustrated by the erratic power supply, blocked part of the Ibadan – Iwo Road, a vital route connecting Ibadan in Oyo State to Iwo in Osun State, to draw attention to their plight.

Protesters from affected communities, including Olodo, Monatan, Alabebe, Iyana Church, Lalupon, Eji Oku, Iyana Offa, Adeleye, Lagun, Adewumi, Trailer Park, Erunmu, Fatumo, Atari, and Ile-Igbon, expressed their dissatisfaction with the inconsistent electricity service.

“Our daily lives and businesses are severely impacted by the unreliable power supply,” said Mr. Akin, a resident. “We are here to demand a consistent and reliable electricity supply from IBEDC.”

To ensure safety and prevent any potential disruption, the IBEDC office was temporarily closed during the protest. The residents remained firm in their resolve, emphasizing that the poor electricity supply has become unbearable and needs urgent attention.

The Ibadan protest over poor electricity supply reflects the growing frustration among residents who rely on stable electricity for their daily activities and economic well-being.

The demonstrators hope that their actions will prompt IBEDC to address the power issues and provide a more reliable service.
