Court remands quack Doctor for allegedly drowning day-old-baby in Oyo

A supposed quack doctor has been remanded in a correctional center after causing the death of a baby boy in Ibadan.

The imposter, identified as Olarewaju Oludele, 50, was accused of drowning a baby boy in a canal.

Oludele was remanded at the Agodi Correctional Centre by an Ibadan Family Court located at Iyaganku.

The magistrate, Mrs O. O. Ogunkanmi, who did not take Oludele’s plea for lack of jurisdiction, sent the case file to the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

She adjourned the matter till March 4 for mention.

Oludele was charged in court on three counts of impersonation, kidnapping, and murder.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Gbemisola Adedeji, told the court that Oludele committed the crime on December 28, 2023, at His Mercy Hospital in Akinyele, Ibadan.

She said that the bogus doctor removed the newborn boy born to his mother at the hospital without her permission and drowned him in a canal.

Adedeji also testified in court that Oludele misrepresented himself to the mother as a trained doctor in order to mislead her and other members of the public.

The offences, she said, violated Oyo State’s Criminal Codes (2000) and were punishable by three years in jail for impersonation, 14 years for abduction, and death for murder.
