"I would have stayed for the Kids" -- Toke Makinwa

There is a reason women choose to stay in trouble marriages, Toke Makinwa reveals, stating she could have done same had things turned out differently.

The popular media personality, Toke Makinwa shares that she would be no different if she had a child in her failed marriage.

Using her own marriage to Maje Ayida as a focus, Toke Makinwa opines that she may not have divorced her ex-husband if they had a child together in the union.

Makinwa and Ayida separated in 2015 after it was discovered her ex-husband had impregnated his ex-girlfriend.

On a recent episode of her podcast, TokeMoments, the media personality opens up that she would have joined the category of women who stayed in troubled marriages no matter the rain or sun, just to protect the kids.

Toke Makinwa explains that she wouldn’t want her child to experience what she had growing up without her biological parents.

She shares that losing both her parents at the age of 8 was a trauma she wouldn’t want her child experiencing.

“A lot of women stay in unhealthy marriages for the children. For the longest you hear so many women say things like, ‘the marriage is done but I only stay for my kids.’ Makinwa shared.

“And I’m going to be honest here, if I have had a kid while I was married, I may have been one of those women. Because I also had the trauma of losing both parents at the age of 8.

“I mean, I was adopted. I have a great life which I’m thankful for but there were times that I wondered what life could have possibly been like if that hadn’t happened.

“So, for the sake of my children, I may have had to compromise just because I wanted them to have mum and dad. I may have been one of these women. So, I’m not even judging anyone right here.”
