How Two traffic robbers got arrested in Lagos

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a suspected traffic robber, Adigun Ganiyu, for allegedly dispossessing residents of their valuables around the Cassidy bus stop in the Okokomaiko area of the state, TOPNAIJA.NG reports.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Bala Elkana, said in a statement on Sunday that policemen on surveillance patrol arrested Ganiyu after a gun battle with his gang members.

Elkana stated, “On Friday, May 17, 2019, around 10.20pm, a team of policemen from the Okokomaiko Police Station on surveillance patrol intercepted a gang of traffic robbery suspects at the Cassidy bus stop, Okokomaiko. The hoodlums engaged the police in a gun battle but eventually succumbed to the superior firepower of the police. One of the hoodlums was fatally injured and one Adigun Ganiyu, 26, was arrested, while the other gang members escaped.

“One double-barrelled gun with one live cartridge, two expended cartridges and the motorcycle used by the hoodlums for the robbery operation were recovered. The suspect, who confessed that the gang was responsible for the series of traffic robberies along Okokomaiko, is helping investigators with useful information about his fleeing colleagues. Investigation is ongoing.”

Similarly, one Justice Igboanusi was also arrested for robbing people around the Ilemba area of the state.

Elkana said the command’s personnel arrested Igboanusi during an operation, adding that one short double-barrelled gun with one live cartridge was recovered from him.

He stated, “On Saturday, May 18, 2019, around 8.30pm, the surveillance patrol team attached to the Ilemba-Hausa Police Station intercepted a gang of traffic robbery suspects operating on a motorcycle along the Church bus stop, Ilemba, who were shooting indiscriminately.

“One Justice Igboanusi, 29, of No 11 Jinadu Street, Ajangbadi, was arrested and one short double-barrelled gun with one live cartridge was recover ed from him, while the other gang members escaped.  Investigation is ongoing. The suspect will be charged to court.”
