Ganduje's Dollars: It was Ganduje all along -- Forensic result

Bribery scandal comes for former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje again as Ganduje’s dollar gate surfaces with new forensic finding.

A recent forensic analysis has concluded that the viral video from 2017, which depicted former Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, allegedly receiving bundles of dollar notes as a bribe and discreetly stuffing them in his clothing, is authentic and has not been doctored.

Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, Muhuyi Rimingado, made this revelation during a “One Day Public Dialogue on Anti-Corruption Crusade in Kano” on Wednesday. Rimingado confirmed the authenticity of the video’s content, stating that it had undergone thorough scrutiny.

Since the release of the controversial video, Rimingado explained that he had faced pressure from various quarters to prove either the innocence or guilt of the embattled former governor. However, due to Ganduje’s immunity during his tenure, the commission’s investigation into the allegations had been unable to determine his culpability or exonerate him.

The Kano State House of Assembly had also initiated a committee to investigate the allegations, but their findings were yet to be submitted as a new assembly was inaugurated on July 4, 2023, halting the committee’s progress.

Recently, Ganduje sought a restraining order from the Kano State High Court to prevent the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from investigating him in connection with the bribery allegations. The former governor’s request came in light of an ongoing legal battle between himself and Jafaar Jafaar, the publisher of Daily Nigerian, over the publication of the incriminating video.

Ganduje’s former Attorney General, who filed the suit, urged the court to halt the EFCC’s investigation until the resolution of the legal dispute between Ganduje and Jafaar.

The confirmation of the video’s authenticity through forensic analysis adds a new dimension to the bribery scandal surrounding Ganduje, placing further scrutiny on the former governor’s actions and potentially impacting the ongoing legal proceedings.

As the matter progresses, the public and legal observers will be closely watching for any developments in the case.
