Four armed robbers killed in shootout with security operatives in Imo state

Four armed robbers were shot dead on Tuesday as a combined team of military men and police officers engaged them in a shootout at Umuaka in the Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State.

Eyewitnesses said the robbers were at the area to rob operatives of Point Of Sale Services when security operatives in the area received information about the robbery and swiftly responded.

The armed robbers reportedly opened fire on the operatives upon sighting them while the security operatives also did gave as much as they got. The gun battle was said to have last for hours.

Consequently, three of the robbers died in the shootout while the other gave up the ghost in a hospital.

“It was a heavy gun battle. The residents of the area ran away owing to the intensity of the gun battle. At end of the day, the four robbers were neutralized. The robbers came to rob POS operatives”, a source said to The Punch.

When contacted, the police spokesperson for the command, Micheal Abattam, said that while three robbers died on the spot, the other died in a hospital.

He said that the command would continue to make the state uncomfortable for criminal elements.
