Former Plateau Senator, Gogwim, dies at 72

Ex-Senator, Sati Gogwim of Plateau State died on Tuesday after a prolonged ailment, a family source has disclosed.

A younger brother of the deceased, Mr Williams Gogwim, on Wednesday, declared this when he spoke with the Top Naija.

He said, “My brother has been sick since last year and in December he left the country for treatment abroad and only returned on Sunday, April 4.

“He came back a little bit stronger, until this morning when he had a health crisis, which compelled us to rush him to Rayfield Medical Centre.

”Unfortunately on getting there he was confirmed dead.”

Williams Gogwim declared that the family had taken his demise in good faith, stating that as true Christians, they believed God called him home.

He said, “We are going to miss him, his love and warmth as a brother, father, uncle and supporter.”

Williams added that the family was surprised over his death and would deliberate the burial service soon.

Sati Davies Gogwim was born 27 July, 1949. He was elected Senator representing Plateau Central in 2007 and spent four years at the National Assembly before losing to Senator Joshua Dariye in 2011.

He is a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He retired as a Major in the Nigerian Army before joining politics and became a senator in 2007. He hailed from Dawaki Village in Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau.

Gogwim obtained an advanced diploma in Accounts/Budgeting, a Diploma in Law and an advanced diploma in Law/Conflict Management at the University of Jos. He became a Finance Officer in the Nigerian Army, Administrative Officer, Audit Officer and Budget Officer.
