Eniola Badmus: TikToker avoids Jail term in defamation suit

Alleged cyber-stalker, Okoye Blessing Nwakego, who is identified as a TikTok content creator in a case involving a defamation suit filed by Eniola Badmus, has narrowly avoided imprisonment after being convicted by a federal high court in Lagos.

The court found Nwakego guilty of cyberstalking and levied a fine of N150,000 as an alternative to incarceration.

The case stemmed from Nwakego’s assertion that Eniola Badmus was involved in illicit activities as a pimp.

The allegations were made via social media, specifically TikTok, and led to legal action being taken against Nwakego. The court charged her with two counts, with the charges centering on cyberstalking and its potential consequences.

Nwakego’s legal predicament involved a joint effort with one Chimabia, who is currently evading authorities.

The charges spanned a period from December 2022 to July 2023 and were framed as conspiring to commit a felony, an offense that falls under the cybercrimes (prohibition, prevention, etc) act of 2015.

The accusations further claimed that Nwakego and Chimabia deliberately transmitted offensive communication that had the potential to cause harm, insult, injury, criminal intimidation, hostility, animosity, and needless distress to Eniola Badmus.

Following her appearance in court, Nwakego was found guilty of the charges on August 2, leading to her sentencing.

The court imposed a one-year imprisonment term for the first count, with the option of a N50,000 fine. For the second count, Nwakego received a two-year imprisonment sentence, with the possibility of a N100,000 fine.

The sentencing terms were specified to be consecutive, while the imprisonment terms were ruled to be concurrent.

To avoid jail term, Nwakego promptly paid the prescribed fine in connection with her conviction.
