El-Rufai denies allegations, defends tenure integrity

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has reacted to the reinstatement of his close friend, Muhammadu Sanusi II, as Emir of Kano by the Kano State government.

The reinstatement comes after he was dethroned in 2020 by the administration of then-Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje over various allegations.

El-Rufai, currently in the United States, expressed his reaction on Facebook, posting a cryptic message with a quote from the Holy Qur’an: “But they plan, and Allah plans. And Allah is the best of planners.” – Holy Quran – Surah Al-Anfal (8:30).

The dethronement of Sanusi II in 2020 strained the relationship between El-Rufai and Ganduje. After Sanusi’s deposition and banishment to Nasarawa State, El-Rufai played a key role in his release from house arrest and relocation to Lagos.

Topnaija recalls that the governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai, within 48hrs of Sanusi’s removal appointed him as the Chancellor, of Kaduna State University (KASU) and Vice-Chairman, Kaduna Investment Promotion Agency, KADIPA.

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State reinstated Sanusi II on Thursday following the repeal of the Kano State Emirates Law 2019 and the enactment of the Kano Emirate Law 2024 by the State House of Assembly.

The reinstatement of Emir Sanusi II marks a significant shift in Kano’s political landscape, reflecting ongoing changes and realignments within the state’s governance.
