Edouard Mendy Informed By The Board To Leave Chelsea

Are Chelsea fans ready to bid Edouard Mendy, the light in the season the club won its second Champions League final, goodbye?

Chelsea goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy, has been told by the club’s board that he can leave Stamford Bridge during the upcoming summer transfer window. According to reports, Chelsea is open to listening to offers for the player as they seek to trim the squad at the end of the season.

Mendy, who is a Senegal international, has not featured for Chelsea since November last year after he underwent surgery on a fractured finger at the beginning of January. While the 31-year-old has been working his way back to fitness, Chelsea’s board has reportedly informed him that he can leave the club.

The goalkeeper has two years remaining on his current contract with Chelsea, which means he is still an asset for the club. However, with his recent exclusion from the team, it is unclear whether he will be a first-choice option in the future.

Earlier this season, Mendy reportedly turned down Chelsea’s offer of a new contract, indicating that he may have been considering his options for a while. With the possibility of a transfer on the horizon, several clubs could be interested in signing the talented goalkeeper.

Mendy joined Chelsea from Rennes in September 2020 for a reported fee of £22m. He quickly established himself as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, displacing Kepa Arrizabalaga, who had struggled to maintain form.

Chelsea’s decision to allow Mendy to leave could pave the way for the club to sign a new goalkeeper this summer.
