Why it happened -- Cole Palmer cold response to penalty fiasco

Chelsea star player Cole Palmer has shed light on a penalty dispute that unfolded during their dominant 6-0 victory against Everton in the Premier League on Monday.

Cole Palmer, who had already notched up three goals within the first 30 minutes of the match, saw his teammate Nicolas Jackson add a fourth just before halftime. However, the drama ensued in the second half when Chelsea was awarded a penalty kick.

Despite Cole Palmer being the designated penalty-taker for the Blues this season, a disagreement arose between him, Jackson, and Noni Madueke regarding who would step up to take the spot-kick.

Reflecting on the incident after the game at Stamford Bridge, the 21-year-old England international addressed the matter, stating,

“Other players wanted to take it, which is understandable because it’s 4-0. But I’m the penalty taker and I wanted to take so in the end, I took it.”

Palmer emphasized the team’s collective desire to take responsibility and contribute, acknowledging that while the argument may have been excessive, it stemmed from a place of eagerness to help the team succeed.

“It was nothing major, we were laughing and joking about it. The gaffer has told us now,” Palmer added, indicating that the issue has been addressed by the team’s management.

The incident highlights the competitive spirit within the Chelsea squad and the players’ determination to contribute to their team’s success, even in moments of disagreement.
