Economic hardship: Nigerians react as Pastor shames colleagues

A clergyman’s decision to halt the collection of offerings in his church due to ongoing economic challenges in Nigeria has ignited a flurry of reactions from Nigerians on social media. In a widely circulated video, the clergyman urged fellow religious leaders to adopt the same approach, highlighting the financial struggles faced by citizens.

“We were supposed to collect offerings today. For now, because of the situation in this country, we are stopping the collection. All pastors should take note that, pending the situation in this country, they shouldn’t collect offerings. To all pastors all over the world, stop collecting offerings for now,” he declared.

The announcement has generated diverse responses from Nigerians online. Here are some of the reactions:

Gare4m cautioned, “No let Oyedepo see am o.”

Dera Uchenna Duru commented, “Can never be Adeboye or Oyedepo.”

Sangy Da Freak praised the move, saying, “God bless you, sir; you get sense at least you understand what humanity is all about.”

Ksolo Hitz questioned the practicality, “How do you run the church bills and other things? No be to talk for social be the thing.”

Fine Wine pointed out, “They didn’t force anyone to pay the offering and tithe. If the followers cannot use their heads. That’s on them.”

The decision has sparked a broader discussion about the role of religious institutions during economic hardships and the responsibility of clergy to their congregations.
