Ebonyi Governor suspends health, housing commissioners over misconduct

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has ordered the indefinite suspension of the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Moses Ekuma, and the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Francis Ori, due to allegations of gross misconduct.

The suspensions were announced on Monday during the state Executive Council meeting at the New Government House in Abakaliki.

According to a statement released on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Jude Okpor, the action was taken following reports of dereliction of duties and other related issues involving the two officials.

Governor Nwifuru’s decision comes after a weekend inspection at the Health Ministry, where six officials were allegedly caught diverting government materials.

The suspension of Dr. Ekuma is set for a period of months, while Mr. Ori’s suspension is indefinite.

This development follows ongoing efforts by the Ebonyi state government to tackle corruption and improve the management of public resources.
