Dealing With The Third Party In Your Relationship

Published

on

Finding out that your partner is having an affair can be very difficult to deal with. After all, what you initially thought would be a happy, bump-free relationship may not be so true after all. So how do you deal with this third party in your relationship?

A third party could be anything or anyone. It could be a straying guy or girl, your partner’s best friend(s) or your partner’s parents or siblings. Your partner’s phone may equally be that third party object that suddenly seems to be of more importance to them than you. Whatever it is, you need to find a way to creatively deal with the third party in your relationship to make sure things don’t go south.

Third parties in any relationship cause tension, arguments, or even a falling out. Truth be told, it can be very hard to ignore, and based on your temperament, your reaction could be unpredictable and leading to something catastrophic. If you don’t want this to happen to you and your partner, take stock of the situation at hand and be proactive about it.

Here are a three ways to deal with a third party in your relationship without going overboard.

1. IGNORE

Sometimes, all a third party wants is attention, especially if the third party comes in form of another guy or girl. If you don’t give them what they want, they might get tired of trying and just go away. Ignoring the third party can be one of the calmest and more civilized way of handling the situation. You however need to be warned that it may take a bit of time, depending on just how aggressive the intruder is. But once you can establish that attention is the fuel that keeps them going, starve them!

2. TALK TO YOUR PARTNER

Before the situation gets out of hand, talk to your partner. Ask what has brought the two of you to
this situation. Also, let your partner know that you do not approve of his/her actions. Seriously consider all options, and focus on deciding on whether your relationship is still worth saving or not. If you feel that you wouldn’t be able to handle your emotions properly, ask your partner to end the affair with the third party (or manage it properly) so you wouldn’t have to deal with a confrontation.

3. CONFRONT WITH TACT

Most people facing this problem initially react with anger. However, letting your emotions get the best of you will not solve the problem at hand. If you intend to confront the third party, it would be best to let your feelings settle down first before doing so. If the intruder is someone you know, confronting him/her peacefully and tactfully would be the best possible option you can do to solve the problem. You can go by the way of a conversation with them to establish their motives. It won’t hurt to also let them how their presence affects your relationship. Most often than not, these people would get the message and step back without a fuss.

Applying any of these three tips can help you solve the issue of a third party without going overboard. Do you have other ideas, or you think otherwise of the listed options? Let’s know via the comments section.
