Former SC correctional officer who had earlier  provided a statement that helped
a convicted murderer who was released from  prison in 2020 after serving only 19 years of a supposed 35-year sentence has recently attempted to visit the man behind bars just months after she stopped working for the agency.

According to a spokeswoman for the South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC), the former officer made the attempt to visit the inmate shortly after leaving her job with the agency.

The news of the former officer’s attempted prison visit has raised concerns about potential misconduct and impropriety. The SCDC has stated that it is investigating the matter and will take appropriate action if any wrongdoing is found.

This latest development is likely to add fuel to an already contentious debate over the criminal justice system and the fairness of sentencing in South Carolina.

Many are calling for a thorough review of the case and a reevaluation of the state’s sentencing guidelines to ensure that justice is served for all parties involved.
