Cole Palmer opens up on the title race

Chelsea fans are soaring with optimism after their thrilling 4-3 victory over Spurs, but Cole Palmer has brought them back down to earth with deadpan response to title talk.

Asked by Dutch outlet PlaySports whether Chelsea should be considered title contenders, the 22-year-old didn’t flinch. “No,” he said plainly, doubling down when the surprised interviewer pressed him. A shrug and another firm “no” followed, cementing a moment that has since taken social media by storm.

But while Palmer’s humility may seem out of step with Chelsea’s resurgence, it underscores the grounded mentality driving the team’s success. Unbeaten in their last six Premier League games and sitting just four points behind league leaders Liverpool, the Blues are undeniably in the mix.

Cole Palmer, however, is taking nothing for granted. The England international, who broke yet another record by converting his 12th consecutive penalty in the Premier League, is leading by example both on and off the pitch.

With 50 goal involvements since joining from Manchester City for £40 million, Palmer has quickly become Chelsea’s talisman.

Fans are divided on his response:

  • “That’s what I love about Palmer—stays grounded and focused.”
  • “Title contenders or not, Palmer is the reason we’re even in the conversation.”
  • “That shrug was pure class. Let the results speak for themselves.”

Manager Enzo Maresca has echoed the sentiment, insisting that while Chelsea are improving, they are not yet ready to challenge seasoned squads like Manchester City, Liverpool, and Arsenal.

“We’ve only been together for a season,” Cole Palmer told Chelsea’s official website. “City, Liverpool, and Arsenal have been building for years. We just want to keep going and winning games.”
