Chelsea Target To Slip Out Of The Blues’ Grasp
The transfer since last summer hasn’t seemed to go down well with West London club, Chelsea owing to the fact that a lot of the club’s transfer targets ended up going to other clubs in the window. And now, if Noel Whelan’s statement were to be listened to, a repeat may be in the air should Chelsea come again for Anthony Gordon.
Noel Whelan, a former Leeds United forward, thinks Anthony Gordon of Everton, who was linked to Chelsea throughout the summer, would be a fantastic addition to Tottenham Hotspur.
Gordon fits Tottenham Hotspur’s style of play, according to Whelan, who hopes manager Antonio Conte will sign him soon.
Gordon was allegedly a target for Chelsea last summer, according to various rumors.
However, the Blues appeared to feel that the forward’s price was too high and abandoned the agreement.
“I think you would get more out of him [Gordon] in a more attacking side. Everton don’t use their front three to their strengths,” Whelan told Football Insider.
“When you look at how the injuries to Kulusevski, Richarlison, and Son have hurt Spurs, they might need that bit more backup. I think he suits Tottenham because he can play on the left, through the middle, and on the right.”
He added:
“Conte will have thought they had enough, but he’s probably realised he needs just one more player now that he’s down to the bare bones. It could be one of those seasons where injuries take over, especially with the World Cup.
“There’s no doubt Gordon is a quality player with plenty more to come from him.”
Ironically to Noel Whelan’s comments, Tottenham Hotspur aren’t that much an attacking side from Antonio Conte’s pattern of play showing, compared to Graham Potter’s philosophy at Brighton.
