Chelsea race into Early Lead over Arsenal for Osimhen

Chelsea has reportedly made contact with Serie A outfit Napoli to explore the possibility of acquiring Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen.

The Super Eagles forward garnered widespread attention following his stellar performances last summer, contributing significantly to Napoli’s clinching of their first Serie A league title in 33 years.

Osimhen, 25, showcased his scoring prowess by netting an impressive 31 goals and providing five assists in 39 appearances across all competitions, with a noteworthy 26 goals coming in the league.

Chelsea, facing inconsistency and currently sitting in ninth place after 21 matches in the English Premier League, has expressed a keen interest in bolstering their attacking options.

Despite securing the services of Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig for £52 million in the summer, Chelsea has struggled to achieve the desired results due to Nkunku’s prolonged absence from the pitch, attributed to injuries.

The team’s failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League in consecutive seasons has heightened the urgency to strengthen their squad, especially in the goal-scoring department, having managed to score only 35 goals thus far.

Amid ongoing speculations, Chelsea has initiated discussions with Napoli for the potential transfer of Victor Osimhen, according to reports from UK publishing firm GiveMeSport.

The publication suggests that “conversations have happened” and that Chelsea is actively pursuing Osimhen’s signature. However, competition for the Nigerian striker remains fierce, with reigning Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain also expressing interest in securing a deal.
