Simon Ekpa challenges Nigerian extradition efforts

Simon Ekpa, leader of the Biafra Government in Exile (BRGIE), has reacted to the federal government’s recent efforts to facilitate his extradition from Finland.

On Tuesday, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) announced that the Nigerian government is in discussions with the European Union (EU) to extradite Ekpa. The announcement follows Ekpa’s declaration of December 2 as the date for the presentation of the Biafra Republic’s map and its official declaration.

In response, Ekpa, who serves as the Prime Minister of BRGIE, issued a statement on his official X account on Wednesday, inviting Nigerian government officials to participate in the upcoming Biafra Convention in Finland. He argued that their attendance would provide an opportunity for debate over his movement for Biafra’s liberation.

Ekpa emphasized that the Nigerian government’s consistent calls for his extradition from the EU and Finland only serve to validate the legitimacy of the Biafra Government in Exile.

“We are inviting them as Nigerian representatives and observers. The government of Biafra will recognize their presence in Finland and provide an opportunity to engage Simon Ekpa on the podium for a debate on Nigeria,” Ekpa stated.

He also extended a personal invitation to Major General Edward Buba, the DHQ’s Director of Defence Media Operations, confirming that a special accreditation card has been approved for him.

Simon Ekpa further invited Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, to the proposed Biafra convention in Lahti, Finland, scheduled from November 29 to December 3, 2024.
