Simon Ekpa applaud US support for Biafra independence
The Biafra Republic Government In-Exile, led by Simon Ekpa, has praised Michael Rubin, a Senior Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, for his recent call for the United States’ incoming administration to consider the self-determination of Biafra.
Rubin’s article, published on Tuesday in an American journal, emphasized the need for the next U.S. president to support the Biafra Liberation movement, citing ongoing ethnic persecution and anti-Christian discrimination in Nigeria.
Ekpa responded to Rubin’s remarks via a statement on his official X account on Thursday, expressing gratitude for Rubin’s recognition of the Biafran cause.

Ekpa reiterated the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile’s plan to declare Biafra’s independence on December 2, 2024.
“Thank you, Michael Rubin, for highlighting the plight of the Biafran people and the BRGIE self-referendum. It is a great honour for us to be discussed by someone of your prestige and eminence,” Ekpa stated.
Earlier this year, in July 2024, the BRGIE claimed that over 50 million Biafrans participated in a referendum supporting Biafra’s independence.
