Bank robbery prank gone wrong; court remands 19-year-old comedian in jail
A 19-year-old comedian has been remanded by Ondo court over a bank robbery prank in Ondo State.
The Lagos-based young comedian identified as Eyinatayo Iluyomade was placed in police custody after he dropped a supposed threat note of an impending robbery in a bank in Ondo State.
TopNaija learned that Eyinatayo dropped the note at the counter of First Bank, in Ondo Town.
As his luck ran out, the young comedian was charged to court on a three count-charge bordering on conspiracy, threat, and manner likely to pose a security threat.
The Police prosecutor, Akao Moremi, told the court that the defendant dropped the note on the bank counter with a message stating that by 1 pm on the same date, his armed robbery gang would invade the aforementioned bank.
According to Moremi, the note which posed a security threat to the Bank had made all banks operating in Ondo shut down for the whole day.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.
The defense counsel, Hawkins Akinnugba, applied for the bail of the defendant in most liberal terms.
However, the trial Magistrate, Mosunmola Ikujuni, denied the bail application pending the arrest of other members of the criminal gangs.
Ikujuni said: “if on the next adjournment date, the prosecution is yet to apprehend all other criminals involved in the matter, then the court will do the needful.”
However, the defendant stated that there was no other gang member and it was simply a prank which he had also pulled the same stunt in other banks in Lagos until he relocated to Ondo.
In his words, “this is the first time am playing the prank in Ondo.
“There is no other gang that wanted to rob the bank as it was written in the note.”
