Balogun of Ibadanland to succeed Late Olubadan: Oba Owolabi Olakulehin emerges as next in line

Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the Balogun of Ibadanland, is expected to be crowned as the next Olubadan of Ibadanland, subject to state governor Seyi Makinde‘s consent.

This comes after the death of the 42nd Olubadan, Oba Lekan Balogun, on Thursday.

Topnaija earlier announced that Oba Balogun had passed away at Ibadan’s University College Hospital. He had reigned for two years before his death.

Oba Olakulehin, the late Olubadan’s successor, is from Ita Baale in Ibadan’s North East Local Government area. He had previously served in the House of Representatives during the Third Republic.

The late monarch was born on October 18, 1942, and was laid to rest following Islamic customs on Friday at 4 p.m.

The ceremonial transition is likely to feature palace drummers going from Alli-Iwo to Oba Olakulehin’s Ita Baale Palace, symbolising his ascendancy to the throne.
