Akpabio Denies Defection Rumour To APC

The Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, has denied  the rumours that he plans to  defecti to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Akpabio, who was the former governor of Akwa Ibom State, has thrown his weight behind the second term bid of Governor Udom Emmanuel.

He urged the state government to show evidence of governance especially in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District so that the people would be convinced to vote the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2019

Speaking at the senatorial district end of year get-together on Sunday in Abak, Akpabio, said the governorship election is less than one year, saying people should not deceive themselves that it will be a walk over for the PDP.

“All is not well; don’t allow people to tell you that all is well. All is not well. You have mentioned a hotel in Ikot Ekpene. If it is allowed to rust, is that a good thing. What of the road from Uyo to Ikot Ekpene? At least one lane should been completed.

“Let me ask; for the 2018 budget, what is the percentage for Ikot Ekpene senatorial district? I don’t have any aspiration to control a state. I had finished my two terms and left. So, my job is to tell the truth; because if at this age I am not telling the truth, automatically, I am not leading you well,” Akpabio said.

He urged the Deputy Governor, Moses Ekpo and other political office holders from the senatorial district to bring development back to their people.

“So, all this rumour that Akpabio is going to APC is a mere rumour. The truth is that Akpabio is advising us to make our path straight. The moment we have done that, we are going to move in one direction.

“I want to endorse the governor of the state for 2019. I am supporting him; I am supporting the re-election of the governor. But, I want us to also think of the senatorial district. In thinking of the senatorial district, if things are not going right, let us right them so that people would not frown on the day of the election,” he said.
