Abuja police arrest suspected armed robbery leader, four accomplice
Police Command operatives in Abuja have apprehended a suspected leader of an armed robbery gang, along with four accomplices.
SP Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer in the FCT, revealed this in a statement on Monday.
The suspected kingpin is believed to have led a gang responsible for numerous robberies and other crimes in the FCT.
According to Adeh, the arrest followed the capture of an alleged cultist linked to the gang on February 14.
Subsequent police investigations led to the arrest of three other gang members.
All suspects confessed to their involvement in a series of armed robberies and other crimes.
They were identified as members of a cult group called the Vikings.
The police recovered several weapons from the suspects, including locally built AK47 rifles, locally made rifles with ammunition, an English handgun, and a locally made pistol.
Additionally, a Dane gun, three AK47 ammunition, and an empty cartridge were seized.
Adeh mentioned ongoing efforts to retrieve further evidence from the suspects.
Commissioner Benneth Igweh reiterated the command’s dedication to ensuring the safety of the FCT, urging residents to report suspicious activities through police emergency lines.
