Abductors of Abuja residents reportedly raise ransom to N700m
The criminal elements that abducted ten people from Sagwari Estate Layout in Dutse, Bwari Area Council of Abuja, and murdered three of them on January 7, 2024, have raised the price for the victims’ release to N700 million.
According to leadership, after murdering some of the abduction victims, the criminals boosted their demand from N60 million per person to N100 million, totaling N700 million. According to residents, the victims were reportedly slain because to the delay in paying the ransom sought by the kidnappers.
On Friday, it was reported that the kidnappers, who also operated in various villages in Bwari, had murdered one of the abducted people, Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar, in order to compel the family to pay the necessary ransom promptly. Folorunsho Ariyo and another female were also slain.
Prof. Ali Pantami, former Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, took to his X handle on Sunday, January 14, to announce that a friend of his has promised to pay the remaining N50 million ransom for the Al-Kadriyar family in order for them to secure the release of their remaining five daughters from the kidnappers following the murder of Nabeeha.
Meanwhile, residents of Sagwari Layout have finalized preparations for a large demonstration against the government’s and security services’ alleged inactivity in saving their people.
The demonstration, which was originally scheduled for Monday, has been rescheduled for Tuesday due to 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
