Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has stated that he is not a member of any political party for now and is only supporting candidates regardless of their political parties for the 2023 general elections.

Dogara, who defected from the All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party, made this known during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today program.

Dogara clarified that his support for candidates across party lines does not make him an “unstable character” and that he is not politically unstable. He pointed out that he has his own candidates for the House of Assembly in his constituency and that he cannot abandon them for political stability.

Dogara had previously supported Atiku Abubakar for the presidency and expressed support for the current APC governorship candidate, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, in the Bauchi State governorship election. However, he has opposed the reelection of the current Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, of the PDP.

It is yet to be seen whether Dogara will eventually join a political party or remain an independent supporter of candidates.
