19-year-old Indian girl gets strangled by Mother

In Ibrahimpatnam, Dandumailaram village, Hyderabad in India, a mother is reported to have murdered her 19-year-old daughter, Mote Bhargavi, after discovering her with her boyfriend at home, according to police reports on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.

The tragic event unfolded on Monday, where Mote Jangamma purportedly assaulted her daughter before strangling her with a saree.

Initially, Jangamma attempted to stage her daughter’s death as a suicide. However, the presence of injuries on the girl’s throat suggested otherwise, indicating she was strangled to death.

The 19-year-old Mote Bhargavi, a student at a private college in Dilsukhnagar, was found alone at home when the incident occurred.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Sunitha Reddy of Maheshwaram stated to TOI that a murder case has been filed, and investigations are ongoing. “All angles are being probed, including the motive behind the murder,” she added.

The sequence of events unfolded when Bhargavi’s father, Ailaiaih, left for work on Monday morning, leaving Bhargavi alone at home with her mother and 17-year-old brother.

Upon Jangamma’s return around 1 pm, she discovered Bhargavi conversing with her boyfriend, prompting her to erupt in fury and abuse her daughter.

Witnessing the altercation, Bhargavi’s boyfriend fled the scene and alerted her brother. Upon the brother’s return, he found the doors locked from the inside. Peering through a window, he allegedly witnessed his mother attempting to strangle Bhargavi with a scarf.

Subsequently, after a commotion, Jangamma reportedly emerged from the house claiming Bhargavi had fallen with a saree tied around her neck. Relatives were summoned to the scene, where a local doctor pronounced Bhargavi dead.

On a complaint from the brother, Ibrahimpatnam police registered a murder case and initiated an investigation.

Police disclosed that Jangamma had been pressuring Bhargavi to marry a close relative, but Bhargavi insisted on marrying her boyfriend, who belonged to the same caste. Tensions over this matter had been brewing for some time, escalating on Monday when Jangamma found Bhargavi with her boyfriend.

Jangamma has been detained for questioning by authorities.

In a conflicting statement, Ailaiah alleged that the 19-year-old was found unconscious when Jangamma returned home, and upon seeing her condition, Jangamma also fainted. He accused Bhargavi’s boyfriend of foul play in the incident and denied opposing Bhargavi’s relationship.
