Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola knows what the media are saying about his team, but the Spaniard won’t let their narratives get into his head after falling to a crushing 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United on Wednesday.

In his post-match press conference, the former Bayern Munich boss denied the claims that the quadruple was Manchester City’s target heading into the season.

The Carabao Cup affair which saw Alexander Isak play hero for Newcastle, brought Pep Guardiola back to humble beginnings as the City boss reveals he will be contented if his side could complete the treble instead.

Prior to the tie, the former Barcelona manager made seven changes to the starting lineup of the game, leaving Erling Haaland as an unused substitute on the bench.

The Spaniard started the game with the likes of Kalvin Philips in the defensive midfield, with the experiment failing to carve out a win for the Cityzens.

Post-match, the manager said when asked of the quadruple;

“You think the target was the quadruple? We are more than happy with the treble,” Guardiola told Sky Sports after the match.

“We played an incredible game. They increased after the break and were more aggressive. They scored a goal. Last season we were out against Southampton and not there but tonight we were. Congratulations to Newcastle.”
