In the midst of the January transfer window, former Chelsea player Joe Cole has advised Conor Gallagher against leaving Stamford Bridge, emphasizing the young midfielder’s significant future at the west London club.
Gallagher, who has been a pivotal part of Mauricio Pochettino’s team this season, has recently been the subject of transfer speculations, with potential moves away from Chelsea being discussed.
The English midfielder has notably featured in all but one of Chelsea’s 27 games this season, starting in 24 of them. Cole, while launching the Green Football Weekend at Wembley Stadium, spoke about Gallagher’s importance to the team.
“Conor Gallagher is a crucial one and is the face of the club,” remarked Cole.
“He’s a captain in the leadership group, so to take him out of the team now would not be good. If I was advising him, I’d tell him he has a big future at Chelsea.”
Cole drew a parallel between Gallagher and Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson, suggesting that the young midfielder could play a similar leadership role for Chelsea. He stated, “I think what Jordan Henderson was to Liverpool, he can be that for Chelsea.”
