A master of mind games, Pep Guardiola knows how to use sweet words to attract his players, and for academy graduate, Rico Lewis, it is no different after his display against Leeds United last night.

Following Manchester City’s victory over Leeds in the Premier League on Wednesday night, Pep Guardiola evidently had a lot of praises for Rico Lewis.

Guardiola was eager to praise the performance of 18-year-old Lewis, who was unexpectedly selected to the starting XI despite both Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo being available, after Rodri had given the visitors the lead just before halftime.

Lewis, who was starting in the league for the Citizens for the first time, was brilliant up until the 68th minute, when he was replaced.

“Without Rico, what we do would be impossible. Defensively, he is so smart, understands the game and is so clever,” he told Amazon Prime.

“That’s why he helps us to do our dynamics so much better. He has played really, really well. He’s an absolute reality for us.”
