Brendan Rodgers On Wilfred Ndidi Loosing His Place

Football can be a cruel thing, and for Leicester City defensive midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, injury setbacks have hindered his progress in the squad to see his spot in the starting XI under threat.

The manager of Leicester City, Brendan Rodgers, has explained why he dropped Wilfred Ndidi from the starting lineup in recent games.

Since his arrival at the King Power Stadium from Belgian Pro League champions KRC Genk in January 2017, Ndidi has been a consistent starter.

The midfielder had a difficult time staying healthy last season, and he has missed a few games thus far this campaign as a result.

The international player from Nigeria has started the last three games for the Foxes from the bench, and Rodgers has acknowledged that Ndidi was benched due to fitness concerns.

“We’ve got a really busy schedule in January,” Rodgers told reporters.

“I had a good sit-down with him and a really honest conversation and he knows what he’s been at in terms of the level when I first came in here for a couple of years.

“He has struggled with a number of injuries but it’s just a case of sometimes coming away from the team and working on the training field and just resetting everything,” he said.

Wilfred Ndidi, according to Rodgers, is training hard and will soon get his moment.

“I can see that in training that has allowed him to have that freshness back in his game so there’s no doubt over the coming weeks he will be ready to start,” he added.

Ndidi has made seven Premier League starts this year for Leicester City.
