Trouble for Mourinho as new signing picks up lengthy injury lay off

AS Roma boss, Jose Mourinho welcomed the signing of former Liverpool midfielder, Georginio Wijnaldum from PSG on loan as he looks to build on Roma’s Europa Conference League win last season.
But things haven’t taken to the shape the Portuguese envisioned as Georginio Wijnaldum picks up a lengthy injury lay off.
The 31 year old is said to have fractured his tibia in training just weeks into his arrival from Paris Saint Germain.
Georginio Wijnaldum recently made the move in search of game time as he looked forward to being included in the World Cup squad for the Netherlands Oranje team.
According to reports, the midfielder could be out for several months after tests were done to check on the extent of the injury.
This is the first serious injury to Wijnaldum’s career as he has never before now suffered a lengthy lay off through injury before.
The Dutchman’s only appearance for Roma was their 1-0 away win at Salemitana in the Serie A fixture on August 14.
A Roma statement read:
“Following an injury sustained during training this afternoon, Georginio Wijnaldum subsequently underwent medical tests that confirmed the presence of a fracture to the tibia in his right leg.
“The player will undergo further assessments in the coming days. FORZA GINI!”
The injury lay off sees Gini Wijnaldum’s world cup chances for the Netherlands in jeopardy as this lengthy lay off sees him out for at least 3 months judging from reports.
This will of course hurt Jose Mourinho and his plans for the season as he looks to build on last season’s progress with Roma.
