Todd Boehly breaks into Chelsea dressing room
Chelsea’s owner, Todd Boehly, has reportedly stormed into the club’s dressing room to confront the squad after their crushing defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend.
The American investor labeled Chelsea’s season as “embarrassing” and expressed his disappointment in their performance since he purchased the club from Roman Abramovich ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.
Despite investing more than $600 million on players, Chelsea has failed to achieve the expected results, leading to a managerial revolving door with three different managers taking charge at Stamford Bridge since Boehly’s arrival. Interim manager Frank Lampard returned to the club in the role after Graham Potter’s six-month stint came to an end earlier this month.
Boehly’s recent visit to the dressing room followed Chelsea’s 12th defeat of the campaign, with Brighton coming from behind to secure a 2-1 victory at Stamford Bridge. As reported by the Telegraph, Boehly delivered a pre-match pep talk to the squad, expressing his disappointment at their performance so far this season.
The American owner is said to have labeled the players “embarrassing” and stressed that a victory against Real Madrid in their upcoming UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg could keep their season alive. Boehly cited his sizeable investment as a reason to expect greater success on the pitch.
However, the club’s owner has faced criticism from fans for his handling of the team, with some supporters situated above Boehly’s box making their feelings known during the game against Brighton.
With Chelsea needing to overturn a two-goal deficit in their upcoming fixture against Real Madrid, goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has called on the team to improve their performance and deliver their best in front of the Stamford Bridge faithful.
