"This is why I don't like him" — Konate on Liverpool teammate

Even in the most tight-knit squads, a little friendly banter can stir up some playful tension in the Liverpool team.

Ibrahima Konaté, Liverpool’s towering French defender, recently made waves with a tongue-in-cheek confession that he ‘hates’ one of his new teammates.

But who’s the unlucky Red at the center of Konate’s grudge? None other than Alexis Mac Allister, the Argentine midfielder who crushed French hearts by winning the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar.

Since joining Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021 for a cool £36 million, Konate has become a fan favorite at Anfield. But even as he prepares for another Premier League season with the Reds, one painful memory still lingers—the heartbreak of losing the World Cup final to Mac Allister’s Argentina.

In a light-hearted ‘I’m passing the phone to’ challenge shared on Liverpool’s social media, Konate playfully expressed his mixed feelings about his new teammate.

“I’m giving the phone to someone that I love a lot, but I hate at the same time because I lost the World Cup final against him,” he joked.

Despite the banter, it’s clear there’s no real animosity between the pair. In fact, Konate made sure to add that he loves the Argentine star, showing that even the toughest defeats can be overcome with a bit of humor. Mac Allister, in return, praised Trent Alexander-Arnold as the best passer in the team, keeping the mood light and fun.

The playful exchange is just one example of the camaraderie within the Liverpool squad as they gear up for the 2024/25 Premier League season.

With a trip to newly-promoted Ipswich Town on the horizon, Cody Gakpo and the rest of the team are eager to kick off the campaign with a win. But as the Reds set their sights on silverware, it’s clear that even a World Cup final loss won’t stand in the way of their unity and determination.
