“This is becoming a nightmare” — Cote d’Ivoire coach
Cote d’Ivoire faced a crushing 4-0 defeat at the hands of Equatorial Guinea. Jean-Louis Gasset, the head coach of Ivory Coast, expressed his dismay at the outcome, attributing the loss to his team’s inefficiency in front of goal.
In a post-match press interview, Gasset referred to the match as a “nightmare” and outlined the team’s initial efforts. He noted that Cote d’Ivoire had prepared well and started the game by aggressively pursuing their opponents and setting the pace.
Despite having possession and opportunities, the team struggled to convert chances into goals. Gasset highlighted Equatorial Guinea’s ability to capitalize on even the slightest opportunities, turning them into goals.
“In football, you have to be efficient. Equatorial Guinea gave us a lesson in realism,” Gasset remarked, acknowledging the crucial aspect of converting chances into goals in the sport.
When asked about the team’s qualification prospects, the Cote d’Ivoire remained optimistic, stating,
“Do I still believe we can qualify? Obviously. We won one match out of three, we have people who are behind us. But when you wait for the results of others, that is not a good sign.”
