They want to hide the truth -- Rufai Oseni accuses Presidency

In response to recent reports from the Nigerian Presidency refuting claims of salary increment for public office holders, popular TV host Rufai Oseni has voiced his opinion, suggesting that the government is attempting to undermine the truth.

The controversy arose following earlier reports indicating a proposed 114 percent salary increase for President Bola Tinubu, Vice President, elected federal and state political office holders, and judicial officers, by the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

On Thursday, Dele Alake, the Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Special Duties, Communication, and Strategy, officially announced that no proposal for salary increment had been presented to President Tinubu for consideration.

Alake emphasized,

“We state, without any equivocation, that President Bola Tinubu has not approved any salary increase, and no such proposal has been brought before him for consideration. While we recognize that it is within the constitutional remit of the RMAFC to propose and fix salaries and allowances of political office holders and judicial officers, such cannot come into effect until it has equally been considered and approved by the President.”

Reacting to the government’s statement, Rufai Oseni took to Twitter to express his disagreement, arguing that a proposal for salary increase does indeed exist. Oseni maintained that the administration led by Bola Tinubu was attempting to discredit the truth.

In his tweet, Oseni stated, “It is a fact that there is a proposal for revenue increase, even a representative from RMFAC confirmed and defended it on TV yesterday. Then I affirm, ‘they want to increase salaries,’ they cry fake news. The plan is to discredit the truth, but they have failed already. The truth stands!”

The conflicting narratives surrounding the alleged salary increment have sparked a debate regarding transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s political landscape.

As discussions continue, the public remains interested in understanding the true nature of the proposed salary increase and whether it will ultimately be implemented or dismissed.
