“The foundations are really fragile” -- Postecoglou blasts Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou sharply criticized his team and the club’s atmosphere following their 2-0 defeat to Manchester City, a result that dashed their hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League. The loss allowed City to overtake Arsenal in the Premier League standings as the season nears its conclusion.

In a post-match press conference, Postecoglou did not hold back on his assessment, reflecting on the fragile state of the club and the peculiar reaction of some fans.

Reports emerged that a section of Spurs supporters were content with losing the match if it meant hindering Arsenal’s chances of winning the title.

“The foundations are really fragile,” Postecoglou stated. “The last 48 hours have shown me that. It’s inside the club, outside the club. Outside, inside, everywhere. It’s been an interesting exercise. It’s just my observations, mate.” He acknowledged that the atmosphere influenced his players, adding,

“Of course it does. It is what it is. I can’t dictate what people do. They’re allowed to express themselves any way they want”

Despite the defeat, Postecoglou emphasized his commitment to building a winning team and dismissed the anti-Arsenal sentiments among some supporters. “I’m not interested, mate. I just don’t care. Maybe I’m out of step, but I just don’t care, I just want to win,” he declared.

The game saw Erling Haaland score twice, with the home crowd reacting with mixed emotions, including chants directed at Arsenal fans. Postecoglou’s frustration was evident as he reiterated his focus on success for Tottenham, regardless of external opinions or rivalries.
