Tension fumes ahead of Man City vs. Bayern Munich — Cancelo
Joao Cancelo, who is currently on loan at Bayern Munich from Man City, appears to have taken a dig at his former coach, Pep Guardiola, ahead of their reunion in the Champions League.
The Portuguese international, who joined the Bundesliga side during the January transfer window, has been included in Bayern’s squad for the clash against Man City.
Cancelo’s relationship with Guardiola reportedly broke down after a training ground bust-up, which led to the defender being loaned out to Bayern. Ahead of the game, Cancelo praised his new team’s coaching staff, seemingly directing a dig towards Guardiola and his coaching methods.
“Bayern Munich is a club that considers discipline to be very important. The staff at Bayern are very professional, and I can identify with these principles,” Cancelo said.
The 28-year-old also expressed his desire to beat Man City and talked about the differences between the Premier League and the Bundesliga. He highlighted the organized teams and good players in the German league, while also acknowledging the physical and technical prowess of the Premier League.
If Cancelo features for Bayern in the game against Man City, he could come up against his fellow countryman and City defender Ruben Dias, who also spoke about the upcoming clash. Dias admitted that playing against Cancelo will be a strange experience but noted that it is part of the footballing life.
Cancelo has been a key player for Bayern Munich since joining the club, making 12 appearances in all competitions and providing two assists. His inclusion in the squad for the game against his parent club adds an intriguing subplot to the Champions League quarter-final tie.
