TCN breaks silence on Nationwide blackout

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has swiftly moved to dispel rumors of an impending nationwide blackout following the industrial action initiated by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

Disassociating itself from a viral publication alleging an imminent electricity blackout due to the strike action, TCN clarified its stance, refuting the claims made in the media.

Amidst the compliance of many organized labor affiliates with the strike directive on Tuesday, TCN stood firm, countering assertions that it had joined the industrial action.

TCN’s denial came in response to a media report which falsely claimed that the Head of Public Affairs at TCN had predicted a potential nationwide power outage.

In an official statement posted on TCN’s verified X account on Tuesday, the management emphasized that the assertion attributed to the Head of Public Affairs was inaccurate and misleading.

The statement clarified that no such statement regarding an impending national blackout was made by the TCN official.

“The Transmission Company of Nigeria hereby states that the publication by Daily Post alleging that the Head of Public Affairs of TCN said that there will be a national blackout is false and totally misleading.” TCN’s statement addressed the misinformation, highlighting it as baseless and malicious.

TCN reiterated the stability of the country’s power grid, assuring the public that it remains fully functional, supplying significant electricity to distribution load centers across the nation.

The company emphasized that, at the time of issuing the statement, the TCN National Control Centre Osogbo, responsible for nationwide bulk power transmission, remains actively operational.
