Supreme Court Affirms Lawal As Zamfara PDP Governorship Candidate
The Supreme Court has affirmed Dauda Lawal as the legitimate governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State.
The affirmation comes just five days before the governorship election scheduled for March 11.
In January, the Appeal Court had reinstated Lawal as the PDP gubernatorial flag-bearer in Zamfara State.
This was after a high court sitting in Gusau, Zamfara State, had nullified the primaries that produced Lawal. A former federal lawmaker, Ibrahim Shehu, had challenged Lawal’s election at the PDP primaries.
In its ruling, the appellate court had set aside a judgment of the Federal High Court. The matter was then taken to the apex court, which has now ruled in favour of Lawal.
Reacting to the judgment, Lawal, in a statement by his media office, described the Supreme Court’s ruling as “a victory for democracy and the good people of Zamfara State.”
He added that “this is a victory for the entire people of Zamfara yearning for good governance.”
The PDP governorship candidate expressed his gratitude to the judiciary for its impartiality in the matter.
He also thanked his supporters for their unwavering faith and confidence in him.
