Sunday Oliseh, Mikel Obi tear each other apart but Obi is not wrong

Mikel Obi had his words against Sunday Oliseh, but Oliseh had some insider gist to share with reporters about the Super Eagles ex-player.

In a recent interview with Elegbete TV Sports, former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh revealed a lesser-known story about former Super Eagles star, John Mikel Obi.

Oliseh revealed how ex-goalkeeper Joseph Dosu played a pivotal role in John Obi Mikel’s early career. According to Oliseh, Dosu housed and fed Mikel before he achieved fame, a gesture that significantly impacted Mikel’s journey to becoming a football star.

“Before Obi Mikel made it in football, Dosu Joseph housed Obi Mikel and fed him. I bet you all didn’t know this. He helped Obi Mikel become what he is today,” Oliseh revealed.

He questioned whether Mikel Obi has ever acknowledged or supported Dosu in return, saying:

“In spite of all the help he gave Obi Mikel, please let’s ask ourselves: has Obi Mikel ever once gone to say hello to Dosu? And with all the millions you’ve made, help the guy (Dosu).”

Oliseh’s comments come amidst a public feud with Mikel, who recently criticized Oliseh’s coaching abilities on his podcast, labeling him as “the worst manager I played under” and accusing him of being “bitter, jealous, and disrespectful to everyone, including the physio.”

Responding to these criticisms, Oliseh defended his coaching record and questioned Mikel’s motives.

“I think the kid needs help,” Oliseh said. “You cannot achieve what you were not able to achieve on the pitch outside the pitch by talking on a podcast.”

Oliseh highlighted his accolades, including being voted the best coach in the Jupiler Pro League by players and coaches, a testament to his coaching skills.

“There’s something I’ve not really shown much, I won the best coach for the first period of the Jupiler league, which is in the Dutch league. That was not voted by the press, that was voted by the players and the coaches of the league,” he stated.

He also noted his historic achievement as the first Sub-Saharan African coach to win this title with Fortuna Sittard.

While Oliseh’s defense is strong, Mikel’s criticisms also hold weight. Mikel, a decorated player with extensive experience in top-tier football, including his time at Chelsea, has firsthand insights into various coaching styles and management approaches.

His perspective, although critical, is valuable as it reflects the expectations and experiences of players at the highest level.

Mikel’s decision to speak out could be seen as a call for higher standards and better treatment within the coaching framework. His comments highlight the importance of respect and professionalism in football management, suggesting that players deserve a supportive and positive environment to perform their best.

In Mikel Obi’s defense, one could argue that constructive criticism is crucial for growth and improvement in any profession, with Sunday Oliseh’s time managing the Super Eagles raising a lot of controversies that led to some players being forced into early retirement from the national team.

Though Mikel’s remarks was harsh, a wake-up call for introspection and development within coaching practices. His boldness in addressing perceived issues openly demonstrates a commitment to excellence and a desire for a better footballing environment for future generations.
