Chelsea: “This guy is ruining our club” — Mikel Obi
Former Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi knows what a lot of Blues fans want, and it is to win without waiting 10-years to see that project yield fruit.
The Chelsea legend condemned Todd Boehly’s project in a furious rant on television recently, questioning the ambition of the club’s owners. After another dismal season that saw the Blues miss out on Champions League qualification, Obi has joined the chorus of critics concerned about Chelsea’s bloated squad and chaotic management.
With a staggering 43 players on the roster and a muddled strategy that seems to prioritize long-term projects over immediate success, Obi fears Chelsea’s winning DNA is being eroded. “We can’t afford another bad season,” he told beIN SPORTS, emphasizing that Chelsea is a club built on competing at the highest level, not languishing mid-table.

In a candid conversation with a senior club director, Obi was briefed on Boehly’s five to ten-year plan. But the former Nigerian international was unimpressed: “There is no five or ten years project, we want to win now.”
With the pressure mounting, new manager Enzo Maresca faces a daunting task as Chelsea prepares to kick off the 2024/25 season against champions Manchester City.
The season opener will be even more challenging without key player Conor Gallagher, whose potential move to Atletico Madrid fell through at the last minute. All eyes are now on Stamford Bridge, as Chelsea tries to reclaim its glory—before it’s too late.
However, with Enzo Maresca the club’s new Head Coach, it will be interesting how the season goes for the West London side.
