Student commits suicide after internet lover vanished with her N500k from her mother

A Nigerian female student has abruptly taken her life after being scammed by her supposed lover she met on Snapchat.

The University of Ilorin student, identified as Sanni Hameedat, aged 20, committed suicide during her period at the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme, SIWES.

TopNaija understands that Hameedat gave this supposed internet lover the N500,000 which she had received from her mother to keep, leading to her taking her life.

According to reports, before her death, the deceased attempted to repay the money to her mother by borrowing from loan app agents, who put further strain on her.

Confirming the event in a statement, the administration of the school stated that the student’s death was caused by loan pressure.

Not being able to pay her loan, she resultedly went into depression before she finally took her own life.

The statement said: “The cause of suicide was traced to financial misappropriation. She was entrusted with a significant sum of money by her mother. She crossed paths with a guy on Snapchat and developed a friendship.”

“When the boy claimed that his mother was battling breast cancer and urgently needed N500,000, the compassionate and emotional lady decided to help him by lending him half of the N1 million she held for her mother. And the boy promised to repay the borrowed money.

“However, when her mother needed the money back, the boy abruptly cut off all contact, blocking her. This left her deeply troubled and in order for her to make up the missing N500,000, she resorted to borrowing money from various apps.”
