Steven Gerrard really eyeing the Liverpool job as he does Klopp impression
The Aston Villa-Liverpool match was one game that drew a lot of media attention even more than it did in previous seasons, which was mostly due in part to the personalities involved in the game. To some it was mostly about the Liverpool connections in the game than the game itself, as cameras focused more on the Liverpool figures; past, present and future that were on field that day.
And when you talk about Steven Gerrard, there’s no way you wouldn’t talk about Liverpool. It seems fated. There is no washing off the Liverpool tag off him, which was why no one could blame CNN a couple of months back when they tagged the former Liverpool Captain as Liverpool Manager during a post match interview he did in his first match day as Villa boss.
Last night’s match though, was different, as the media eye was very much focused on Liverpool’s title charge against City, with the world waiting to see what influence Gerrard may have, to hurt his former team’s pursuit of the title, and even more so his expressions on the field.
One which was caught though, and has drawn a lot of humorous reactions online is a footage of Aston Villa manager jogging behind Jurgen Klopp to the changing rooms at half-time. It drew a lot of attention from Liverpool fans and neutrals, with some seeing it as a proverbial chase to the Liverpool manager job by Steven G, after Klopp’s era was done.
Others saw it as Gerrard subtly leaning towards a Jurgen Klopp-like personality as he develops his managerial career, considering jogging off to the dressing room immediately after half time whistle was blown, was Klopp’s match day routine.
That, and the big moment prior to kick off when both managers went in a tight embrace is a highlight lots of Liverpool fans will look at with smiles on their faces, as somehow they see it as a symbolic moment that speaks of what could happen along the way in the future.
Although the clip didn’t leave behind jibes from rival fans who find it most amusing mocking the Liverpool legend for his infamous slip against Chelsea in the 2013/14 campaign.
