Senator Ningi reveals arrest plot amid senate suspension

Bauchi Central Senator Abdul Ningi has revealed a startling revelation following his suspension from the Senate.

He disclosed that there was a plot to arrest him by his colleagues due to a controversial statement he made regarding the 2024 budget allocation.

Ningi’s suspension, lasting three months, came after he asserted during an interview with BBC Hausa that no single project could justify the staggering sum of N3.7 trillion allocated in the budget. His statement sparked intense debate within the legislative assembly and among Nigerians.

Addressing the media ahead of the next Senate plenary session, Ningi reiterated his stance and expressed his readiness to face any consequences for his candour.

However, tensions reached a boiling point during Tuesday’s Senate session. Ningi’s allegations triggered emotional debates, leading several legislators to demand his suspension.

Senator Olamilekan Adeola of Ogun West filed a motion to formally discuss Ningi’s remarks amidst the chaos, prompting further controversy.

Senator Jarigbe Jarigbe of Cross River North made fresh accusations, alleging that N500 million was allocated to each selected’senior senator’ for constituency projects, hinting at collusion within the Senate.

These allegations have stirred public discourse, with constituents urging their senators to clarify their involvement and the purpose of the allocated funds.

In an interview on Arise TV, Ningi reiterated his concerns, alleging that senators were conspiring to silence him or even have him arrested for exposing the unaccounted N3.7 trillion.

He emphasised the need for transparency and accountability in parliamentary proceedings, stating, “I’ve opened this can of worms, and neither they nor I can control it.”
