President Buhari will never tamper with press freedom - Adesina Top Naija

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, on Monday, emphasized that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration will never tamper with press freedom in the nation.

Press freedom is the right to report news or circulate opinion without censorship from the government. A free press helps inform the public.

He said this while responding to the accusation that the government shut down an online news platform, Peoples Gazette.

Adesina discredited the statement. He said that the present government would never tamper with the independence of the media.

He spoke on Arise TV, The Morning Show on Monday.

According to Adesina, “This government never clamped down on the media. It has never done, and will never do.

“This government will never tamper with the independence of the media, and freedom of the press.

“Peoples gazette is a paper that lies every day. It has lied against me and has lied against several people. So why should we bother ourselves against a platform that’s full of lies?”

Femi Adesina is the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity. He is a famous journalist in Nigeria. He was sworn-in as special adviser on media and publicity to Buhari on August 31, 2015.

He was a student of the Obafemi Awolowo University in Osun State. He also attended Lagos Business School and other institutions of education.

Adesina started his career in journalism as a writer for Radio Lagos, he then later joined Vanguard Newspapers. He wrote for Vanguard Newspapers and National Concord Newspapers before joining The Sun Newspaper, where he rose to editor-in-chief.

Furthermore, he served a two-year term as president of the Nigerian Guild of Editors. Although re-elected for a second term as Guild president, he stepped down after receiving his government appointment. He also stepped down as editor-in-chief of The Sun.

Adesina was named Editor of the Year for 2007 by the Nigeria Media Merit Awards. The journalist is married with two beautiful and already grown-up children.
