Police Arrest 10 Suspected Criminals On Lagos Island

The Police at Area `A’ Command, Lagos Island of the Lagos State Police Command, have arrested 10 suspected criminals on Lagos Island alleged to be using the Adeniji Adele under the bridge and Ebute Ero as their base from where they launch attack on road users and rob them.

A police source said that detectives swooped on the arrested suspects following series of complaints by victims and road users that suspected criminals were attacking them along the Adeniji Adele under the bridge and Ebute Ero, thus, making life unbearable for them.

Police identified the arrested suspects as Ahmed Taiwo, 28;  Taye Adebayo, 25; Ismail
Sikiru, 24; Ismaia Abubakar, 20 and Mutairu Alabi, 46.

Others included Rafiu Iyanda, 20; Tajudeen Ibrahiim, 36; Abubakar Adua,28; Fatai Popoola, 27 and Jamiu Ayinde, 27.

After investigation by Sgt Odiyeye Toluwalase and his team, all the arrested suspects were arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate Court on  three count charges of felony to wit, attacking, harrassing and intimidating passers-by to commit felony, cause mayhem and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.

Police Prosecutor, Reuben Solomon informed the court in charge No M/2/2018 that the accused persons committed the offence on 9 January, 2018 at Isale Eko, Lagos Island.

Solomon told the court that the accused specialized in attacking, harrassing and intimidating innocent road users in the area to steal from them.

He said the offences committed were punishable under sections 411, 168(d) and 21(1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

All the accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the crime and Magistrate S.K Matepo admitted them to bail in the sum of N50,000 each with two sureties each in like sum and adjourned the case till 31
January, 2018 for mention.

Matepo ordered that the defendants be kept at the Ikoyi prison till they fulfilled the bail conditions.
