Phone, data services restored after undersea cable cuts— NCC
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) reports that voice and data services affected by the cable cuts have been restored.
Dr. Reuben Muoka, NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, stated this in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja.
Muoka stated that services had been restored following an outage on March 14, which interrupted data and voice services due to undersea fibre optics cuts off the shores of Cote d’Ivoire and Senegal.
“We are pleased to announce that services have now been restored to approximately 90 per cent of their peak utilisation capacities,” he said.
Muoka stated that all of the operators hit by the cuts have obtained recovery capacity from subsea cables that were not affected by the cuts.
Then there’s the fact that it’s a lot of labour.
He stated that the MNOs had successfully activated alternative connectivities to restore normalcy.
“We extend our appreciation to telecom consumers for their patience and understanding during the downtime caused by the undersea fibre,” he said.
